A new report from the National Association of Realtors put a number on something most agents already believe: staged homes sell for 1 to 10 percent more than unstaged ones, and they tend to spend less time on the market doing it.

The psychology behind it is straightforward. When a home feels move-in ready, buyers stop mentally tallying what they will need to fix and start picturing themselves living there. That shift creates stronger offers and more competition, which is exactly what a seller wants.
